Vision: Learning today, leading tomorrow!
Mission: To believe all students can achieve and reach their goals for tomorrow.
Mrs. Rebekah West, Principal
Greetings from Mrs. West...
For the past six years, I have been the principal of Junction City Elementary School. Although my family and I are not Junction City natives, we have caught the infectious Dragon Spirit over the years. You have heard the old cliché: once a dragon, always a dragon. At the West house, we bleed purple and gold!
The faculty and staff of the elementary are making final preparations for the 2014-2015 school year! We truly desire to make a difference for every child by providing a safe, nurturing and orderly environment with a rigorous and relevant curriculum that challenges every student to grow socially, emotionally and academically. We want our students learning today, so they will be leaders tomorrow!
The district and building leadership teams have identified a major barrier in increasing student academic achievement in our schools: student/parent apathy (lack of interest). As parents and guardians, we have a responsibility to hold our children accountable for their academic progress. We need all of the Junction City stakeholders (students, parents, grandparents, community leaders, business owners, church leaders and citizens) to be active participants in the education of our students in order for our students to meet/exceed our nation’s standardized testing requirements. Whether you agree or not, national standardized tests are how our students, teachers, administrators and schools are assessed. Our student test scores must improve. Failure to increase student growth academically on these high stakes tests could be detrimental to all stakeholders.
Your student’s individual standardized test report will be sent home in the Dragon folder on August 26, 2014. These reports are not always the easiest for parents to read and understand. If you have any questions regarding your child’s test scores, please contact Mitzi Thompson, counselor, at 870-924-4596.
Parental involvement is a crucial component of your child’s academic success. You are your child’s first and most important teacher. Be an active participant in your child’s education this year. Your support is encouraged and greatly needed. In the elementary we have a variety of ways for you to help. For suggestions on how to help your child and be more involved, contact your child’s teacher and/or the elementary parent facilitator, Shanna McLelland, at 870-924-4564.
Be sure to complete, sign and return all of the required documents in the student packets that students will receive at the open house or on the first day of school no later than August 20, 2014.
As always, I look forward to working with each of you as partners in your child’s education. You are encouraged to contact the school if you have questions or concerns. To schedule an appointment to conference with teachers and/or the principal, contact the elementary office at 870-924-4578. Be sure to check out the calendar on our website and follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on current school events.
Together, we can make this the best year ever for our kids!
