Elementary

Mrs. Rebekah West, Principal
The 2012-2013 school year is going to be the best year ever for the stakeholders of Junction City Elementary School. Our K-6 elementary school has been named an Achieving School by the Arkansas Department of Education for academic performance in literacy and mathematics. Teachers, paraprofessionals and students are highly commended for their academic achievement.
Your student’s individual standardized test report will be sent home on August 28, 2012. These reports are not always the easiest for parents to read and understand. If you have any questions regarding your child’s scores, please contact the elementary office at 870-924-4578 to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Thompson.
At Junction City Elementary, we truly want to make a difference for every child by providing a rigorous and relevant curriculum that challenges each child to grow academically. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing intense intervention for struggling students that need extra help. In addition, enrichment will be provided to those students who need the extra challenge.
Improvements have been made to enhance our facilities, thus making the atmosphere for learning more inviting. I would like to extend a special thanks to the summer maintenance crew for a job well done on cleaning the grounds, moving equipment, repairing equipment, updating classrooms and painting.
Students today are digital natives. Technology is crucial in preparing today’s children for the future. The kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms, gifted and talented, art, music and media center have interactive whiteboards to enhance learning for our students. In addition, an i-pad mobile lab will be utilized this year. I-pods, pod-casting with flip cameras and web-based programs are other examples of how teachers plan to infuse technology in the classrooms to engage students in learning.
The fall calendar is filling up quickly with activities and events. Calendars will be sent home in the Dragon envelope one Tuesday a month. Soon, we will announce our first Top Dragons of the year at the September School Board meeting! In addition, please be sure to complete, sign and return all of the requested documents in the student packets that students will receive at the open house or on the first day of school.
Parental involvement is a crucial component of a child’s academic success. At Junction City Elementary, we welcome parents on our campus. Be sure to stop by and sign in at the elementary office first. If you would like to be more involved, contact Shanna McLelland at (870) 924-4564.
As always, I look forward to working with each of you as partners in your child’s education. Together, we can make this the best year ever for our kids!
